Running

If you know me (either very well or just a little bit)....you have probably heard me say how much I HATE to run. Running has never been fun for me. I think it stems back to high school running sprints and then more long distance running over time as I was involved with playing volleyball in college. Running never has appealed to me. I know it must be good for me since I pass so many people on the road (trying to avoid hitting them with my car actually). It has been a long time since I have been that active and I'm feeling the pain now.

My husband and I decided jointly to try this running thing. I figured if Chris wanted to try it, the least I could do as a devoted spouse is run alongside him. He found this program, C25K, the premise is that a couch potato (ME) can run in a 5K after 9 weeks. It is a huge accomplishment for me.

I can HAPPILY say that I SURVIVED the first week. This is a huge accomplishment for me. The first day, I ran at 4:00 in the afternoon for some crazy reason. It was HOT!!! The next two days, I woke up (and waited for Chris to get back from his run) at 5:30 am. This is the time I'm normally laying in bed watching the morning news getting ready to head downstairs and start working. It has been a good time to reflect on stuff , set small goals like make it to the 6th mailbox and listen to some old school hip hop.

Maybe, just maybe, this running thing isn't too bad. I'll report about week two soon. Hopefully I'll be saying the same thing next Friday!
