Projects!

My dad doesn't really know what to do in this semi-retirement stage of his life. He always has to be doing something...either working on his truck, going to the YMCA to workout, hunting/fishing or building something. Since we moved in with my parents, they have done EVERYTHING  to make our family feel at home. There are no words to describe how blessed we are to have them in our lives. Below are just a couple of the "small" projects my dad has undertook in the month that we have lived here.

Just before we moved in, dad decided that fencing in their back yard would be ideal for the boys and we would have a safe place for them to run free this summer. He did it all by himself. The stubborn man didn't wait for any help. He did an EXCELLENT job!

The next project was enlarging their back deck. It was a tiny little deck. It is amazing that we were able to fit 4 adults, 2 kids, a cat, a dog and a huge grill on it to begin with. This was the rendering of the enlargement that I made for dad to work off of.

Again, he did the work all by himself...with the exception of putting up one of the massive posts and he got the help of mom (briefly) and then Chris was able to help finish that part up with him. It is amazing how much space we have up there and it is a great place to hang out in the afternoon and be able to keep an eye on the kids down below.

My parents have a swingset/slide for the kids to play on. Dad added some sand to pad the landing of the slide. The boys found the sand more fun to play with than the slide some days. I knew they were missing their old sandbox from our old house.

Enter in building a sandbox for the boys. This has been the best build by far! The boys spend a part of every day in this sandbox.

The sandbox was up less than 6 hours and dad was already modifying the box, adding seats to the side for each boy.

Dad and I picked Sam up early from school one day. It happened to be right at the time they were going outside for playtime at the end of the day. Sam was distraught that we picked him up before he could go to the playground. Dad asked him what would make our "playground" better than school's. In Sam's daydreaming he mentioned having a tire swing. In less than 3 days we had this hanging from the new deck....

My boys are in heaven. Thanks to mom and dad for making us feel at home during this tough time of transition for everyone!
